Argentina legend Diego Armando Maradona has hit out at his fellow compatriot Lionel Messi by saying that the Barcelona forward cannot win the world cup on his own and further show admiration for Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and admits he wishes he is an Argentine.

Maradona, earned 91 caps for Argentina and he scored a total of 34 goals for the national team, he won a World Cup during his playing days and the former Napoli star admits he is a huge fan of Real Madrid and Portuguese star, who helped guide his country to glory at Euro 2016 last summer.

However, the former Argentine attacking midfielder still prefers Messi to Ronaldo, but he admits that Barcelona Forward does not have what it takes to win the world Cup for his country on his own that he wishes he partner the Real Madrid forward to deliver the world cup to the South American nation.

Messi has endured plenty of frustration on the international stage, losing the 2014 World Cup final with Argentina, as well as three Copa America finals in 2007, 2015 and 2016.

Maradona believes Messi would still be remembered even without a major international trophy, but couldn’t hide his love for Ronaldo as he admitted he wished he were Argentinian.

‘Cristiano is an animal,’ Maradona told TyC Sports. ‘I wish he was Argentine.
‘But I still prefer Messi. He is enjoying playing football and goes by opponents with ease.
‘Leo cannot deliver the World Cup on his own.  “Alone, he will not be able to win the World Cup. You need a solid team for that. Football history will remember Messi,”Even if he does not win a World Cup, we will still remember him.’
“He makes me think of Gabriel Batistuta,” the Argentina striker who starred at three World Cup finals. “As soon as he touched the ball, it was a goal.”

The Real Madrid forward is currently in Russia for the Confederation Cup, he won the man of the match award in their last game against Mexico.

Source: FIFA.com Diego Godin has revealed he cannot stop thinking about the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and expressed his desire to become the first Uruguayan in 68 years to lift the Trophy. Jules Rimet handed it to Obdulio Varela – albeit in bizarre circumstances – at the Maracana in 1950, and though  La Celeste reached the semi-finals on three occasions thereafter, they have never gone further, losing to Hungary in 1954, Brazil in 1970, and the Netherlands in 2010. Eight teams have shorter odds of winning Russia 2018 than Uruguay, but that does not stop the Atletico Madrid centre-back from dreaming big. “There isn’t a day goes by that I stop thinking about the World Cup,” Godin told  Radio Rincón . “I dream of lifting the Trophy – of course, I do. “We qualified for the World Cup well. The important thing is that no-one gets injured, that everyone is right physically.”Godin believes the secret to Uruguay’s prosperity under Oscar Tabarez – t...
