6 FACTS: How Super Falcons Avenged Super Eagles’ Losses To Cameroon


The Super Falcons defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 on Saturday to win their 8th Women's Africa Cup of Nations title.
Despite playing most part of the game on the backfoot, the Super Falcons managed to secure the win.
In this piece, Completesportsnigeria.com's JAMES AGBEREBI takes a look at how the Super Falcons have fared against the Indomitable Lionesses compared to the Super Eagles record to Cameroon senior men's national team, the Indomitable Lions.
1. Indomitable Lions Beat Super Eagles in the Final For Their 1st‎ Three AFCON Titles
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have won the Africa Cup of Nations four times; 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.
Their first three triumphs (1984, 1988, 2000) came at the expense of the Super Eagles. At the 1984 AFCON final, the Indomitable Lions beat the Eagles 3-1, won 1-0 at the 1988 AFCON final before edging the Eagles 3-2 on penalties at the AFCON 2000. 
2. Indomitable Lionesses Lost All Three Of Their AWCON‎ Finals To The Super Falcons
Cameroon women's football team, Indomitable Lionesses, have played in three finals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (tournament format), but lost all of them to the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Both teams first met at the AWCON 2004 final with the Super Falcons winning 5-0. They met at the 2014 edition with the Falcons triumphing 2-0.
And at this year's edition held in Cameroon, the Falcons once again emerged 1-0 victors.
3. Indomitable Lions Won The Third AFCON Title On Nigerian Soil, Beating Super Eagles  In The Final
The Indomitable Lions were crowned African champions for the third time at the AFCON 2000 co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana.
And for the third time, they met the Super Eagles in the final, and despite playing in front of a capacity crowd inside the National Stadium, Lagos, they won 3-2 on penalties after 120 minutes ended 2-2.
4. Indomitable Lionesses Lost Their Third AWCON Final At Home (Yaounde) To The Super Falcons
Following two previous defeats in the final of the AWCON to the Super Falcons (2004 and 2014), the Indomitable Lionesses had the chance to get one over the Falcons when they both clashed in the final of the 2016 edition which Cameroon hosted.
But it wasn't to be as the Falcons still went on to win 1-0 in front of a packed crowd inside the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium Yaounde.
5. Indomitable Lions Stopped The Super Eagles from Qualifying For Italia '90 FIFA World Cup
During the qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup in Italy, the Super Eagles were drawn in the same group with Gabon, Angola and Cameroon.
In their first meeting in the early rounds of the qualifiers, the Super Eagles defeated Cameroon 2-0.
Folloing their 1-0 win against against Angola in Lagos, the Super Eagles needed at least a draw against Cameroon in Yaounde in the final group game to advance into the play-off round

But a 1-0 win for the Indomitable Lions ended the Super Eagles's Italia '90 dream
6. Super Falcons Stopped The Indomitable Lionesses From Qualifying For The China 1991 FIFA Women's World Cup
The Super Falcons qualified for their first ever women's World Cup in 1991 in China after defeating Cameroon 6-0 on aggregate in the play-off.
Prior to meeting Cameroon in the final round of the qualifiers, the Super Falcons had eliminated Ghana 7-2 on aggregate.
In the first leg against Cameroon in Yaounde, the Falcons won 2-0 before winning 4-0 in the return leg in Lagos.
