Lionel Messi turns 30 years old today and somehow we cannot quite believe how fast time has shot by.
The little wizard made his debut on October 16, 2004 after he came on in the Catalan derby between Barcelona and Espanyol at the Montjuic.

Lionel Messi turns 30 today and has turned into one of the most incredible footballers in history

And 30 is a significant number for Messi, because that is the number on his back the moment he crossed the white line and began a journey like no other as he replaced Deco.

He was just 17 years old, three months and 22 days old – and it took Messi till May 1, 2005 to score his first goal against Albacete.

Here are SIX things you didn’t know about the magician.

 1. Messi signed his first contract on a NAPKIN
Lionel Messi signed his first contract with Barcelona on a napkin before moving to La Masia
THAT’S right, one of the greatest players of all time was snapped up thanks to a serviette.
Barca scouts were so keen to tie him down, they used the only piece of ‘paper’ they could find.
At least nobody can claim they made a meal of it!

 2. Messi is a coke addict
Lionel Messi was banned from drinking too much Coca Cola
BARCELONA were forced to remove vending machines from La Masia after learning little Messi liked a can of Coca Cola.
His diet was so bad at the time, he was forced to consult a nutritionist.
Don’t worry, he doesn’t touch the wacky white stuff.

 3. Messi’s multi-cultural heritage

Lionel Messi has three other countries in his lineage but he was born in Argentina
HE has a multi-national background in all parts of the world, including Italian, Lebanese and English heritage.
Imagine him in a Three Lions shirt, surely they’d actually be good at an international tournament.

 4. His son has already been signed

Lionel Messi's first child Thiago was reportedly signed by Newell's Old Boys at just 72 hours old
MESSI’S eldest lad Thiago was snapped up by his dad’s first club just 72 HOURS after the youngster was born.
But Thiago has already been training with Barcelona at La Masia… we don’t expect a scrap over his future career just yet though.

 5. His foot is made of gold

Lionel Messi had a foot made of gold for charity which was sold for £4million
A GOLDEN cast of Messi’s foot was made… and it sold for £4MILLION.
The good news is that the proceeds went to a fantastic cause – to help the victims of the Japanese tsunami.
Good old twinkle toes.

 6. Messi has re-written history – and the dictionary
A Spanish dictionary actually came up with a new word for Lionel Messi
‘Inmessionante’ means ‘the perfect way to play football.’
Maybe that’s true, but even the mercurial Argentine hasn’t won the World Cup. Yet.

Godin: I dream of lifting the cup

Source: FIFA.com Diego Godin has revealed he cannot stop thinking about the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and expressed his desire to become the first Uruguayan in 68 years to lift the Trophy. Jules Rimet handed it to Obdulio Varela – albeit in bizarre circumstances – at the Maracana in 1950, and though  La Celeste reached the semi-finals on three occasions thereafter, they have never gone further, losing to Hungary in 1954, Brazil in 1970, and the Netherlands in 2010. Eight teams have shorter odds of winning Russia 2018 than Uruguay, but that does not stop the Atletico Madrid centre-back from dreaming big. “There isn’t a day goes by that I stop thinking about the World Cup,” Godin told  Radio Rincón . “I dream of lifting the Trophy – of course, I do. “We qualified for the World Cup well. The important thing is that no-one gets injured, that everyone is right physically.”Godin believes the secret to Uruguay’s prosperity under Oscar Tabarez – t...
