The month of December will be a memorable one for the people of Lagos State as the government has lined up numerous activities including the Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations tournament.
Speaking with newsmen at the weekend, the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Steve Ayorinde, said the Beach AFCON would be another opportunity to sell the state to the outside world as a mega city.
Ayorinde revealed that the Governor’s love for sports made it easier to host the competition on behalf of the country. “One of the campaign points of the Governor was Project THESE, which stands for; Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Art, Sports in order to attain Excellence,” he said.
“Lagos is the Centre of Excellence, the most populous state in Nigeria and we have the human capacity and financial resources to host the competition.
“The Governor loves beautiful things to come up in the state because we are number one when it comes to sporting activities and entertainment. “The state decided to host the competition because the Governor believes in efficacy of sports to sell a mega city like Lagos.”
Speaking further, he said Ambode recognised two important components that could put the state on the world map; tourism and entertainment on one hand and sports on the other hence his decision to use both mechanisms to drive the city.
He revealed some of the events lined up to make December a memorable and unforgettable one for the citizens and visitors. Ayorinde added: “Series of activities has been put in place and it was kick-started with first ever Lagos State Street Party that was held at the weekend in Victoria Island.
“The beach party follows from December 13th to 18th, immediately after and from 24th till New Year day, the second edition of Lagos fiesta will be on. It will be across the state.”

Godin: I dream of lifting the cup

Source: FIFA.com Diego Godin has revealed he cannot stop thinking about the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and expressed his desire to become the first Uruguayan in 68 years to lift the Trophy. Jules Rimet handed it to Obdulio Varela – albeit in bizarre circumstances – at the Maracana in 1950, and though  La Celeste reached the semi-finals on three occasions thereafter, they have never gone further, losing to Hungary in 1954, Brazil in 1970, and the Netherlands in 2010. Eight teams have shorter odds of winning Russia 2018 than Uruguay, but that does not stop the Atletico Madrid centre-back from dreaming big. “There isn’t a day goes by that I stop thinking about the World Cup,” Godin told  Radio Rincón . “I dream of lifting the Trophy – of course, I do. “We qualified for the World Cup well. The important thing is that no-one gets injured, that everyone is right physically.”Godin believes the secret to Uruguay’s prosperity under Oscar Tabarez – t...
